[P Yasser Arafat, who is one of the very few persons in the world that
I admire, is about to die, and there's nothing that I can do - or say
- about that. This is such a hairy subject.]

[P And before you start to scream: my father is a survivor of the
Holocaust. This is not just a dry fact\; I've lived all my life with
him, and his psyche is quite twisted sometimes. I have probably
thought about all those subjects *much* more than you.]

[P I live in Rio de Janeiro and I've been an outcast in almost all
possible senses for at least the last 13 years. Plus, I've been
hearing \"but it's so easy\"s and \"no you're not\"s all my life\; I'm
quite used to having what I feel being dismissed. If you see the
Israelis that are killed in suicide attacks and think on how much you
would suffer if they were someone of your family, try to think also
about the other side: try to think on all the people in the world, in
different situations, that have no future at all, that have nothing to
lose, and that at the same time have no voice, and don't know what to
say or what to do. For me Arafat stands as someone who have put those
people in the map and showed that this is not just a question of
charity, it is something much more urgent - and he also showed that
even when there seems to be nothing that you can do there's still a
lot that you can do - it is just that the things that can be done sit
beyond the mental boundaries that you had before.]

[P By the way: yes, he is a kind of mythical figure to me. So what? Go
buy a lollipop and meditate about all that.]

[P By the way 2: living in Rio de Janeiro means that people smile and
go to the beach, but at the same time there's a kind of a civil war
going on, and if you get poor you'll be right in the middle of it. And
the universities are closing, and education, health services and
social security are being dismantled, so guess in which kind of
situation I expect to be when I grow up...]
